“Mobilysis – dialysis made portable” by Maria Gartner, Dimitar Genov, Nico Strobl and Stefan Silberfeld as well as Claudia Bär’s “WISB_walking impairment sport bike” were successful at this years Austrian National Design Price 2011.

Both won a distinction award in the special category “DesignConcepts” and a total of €3.000 per project, along with a one month exhibition at the “designforum” in Viennas MQ.

Famous German designer Dieter Rahms (head of the Jury) had only but the best words for these great projects.

Judgment of the Jury: “A further development of this project, the realization of which could not be highly enough appreciated as an improvement for those affected, seems highly desirable. It can only be hoped that the support the project receives here will be a first step in that direction. For the designers involved, it would be crucial to find partners who look into the proposed solution and then market it as a fully developed product.”

Judgment of the Jury: “The high-quality design and the system approach for this vehicle have aroused enthusiasm, and it’s multifunctionality – it can be used as a wheelchair handbike, or a recumbent bike – is impressive. The product’s aesthetic appearance and its function as a piece of sports equipment counter the “victim look”, thereby increasing one’s willingness to use it. This is a worthwhile contribution towards mobility assistance, where comfort does not come up short, for instance with the well-designed seat.”
